Before a contractor can size a head unit or spec a line set, they need to know what the electrical panel will actually support and whether any existing ductwork is still in the shape the original plans described. Those things have to be opened and checked, not assumed from a listing. Half the homes in New Hampshire were built in 1979 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). That puts most of the state's housing stock in a range where insulation, wiring capacity, and penetration options vary house to house in ways an address does not reveal. A quote built without a site visit is a guess.
Does your county put extra stress on HVAC equipment in New Hampshire?

A condenser sitting outside faces whatever the season delivers: freezing rain that locks coil fins, summer heat that drives the refrigerant circuit hard, wind-driven debris, and ice loads that bend or crack components not rated for them. Equipment sized and positioned without accounting for local exposure gets worked harder and fails sooner. The contractor you are matched with knows what outdoor conditions in your part of New Hampshire actually demand and specs the job accordingly.
New Hampshire HVAC Installation and Repair License Requirements
New Hampshire sets its own rules for who is permitted to perform HVAC installation and repair work, and this section quotes those rules directly from state law rather than paraphrasing them.
New Hampshire's mechanical licensing board issues nine credentials — hearth system, four fuel gas endorsements, domestic appliance technician, and master, journeyman and apprentice plumber — and a licensee may not work outside the specialty their licence names. None of the nine is an HVAC licence.
A state licensing requirement for this trade means that only contractors holding the appropriate credential are legally permitted to do the work on your home. That is not a formality. Every contractor this site routes a request to holds the license New Hampshire requires for this work, and a request goes nowhere until that condition is met.

New Hampshire does not license HVAC as a trade, and says so where it matters: the plumbing licence expressly does not reach a person installing heating, cooling, air conditioning or domestic water heating systems, whether solar, oil, gas or electric. The gas piping on a gas-fired system is a separate matter and needs a fuel gas fitter licence.
